I’m done with elective positions – Peter Obi

Former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi has declared that he would not run for any elective position.

He said this on Saturday at Ochuche in Ogbaru Local Government, where his former Commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, Dubem Obaze received a chieftaincy title from the coalition of all traditional rulers in Anambra North.

Speaking to journalist, he said: “I started telling people during my second tenure in office as governor that I will not aspire for any elective position in the country, but some people thought I was joking.

null

“Some have even been speculating that I will be contesting for Senate for Anambra Central in 2015 or for another elective position at the national level and I want to say here that I have no such ambition. However, I am prepared to make myself available for the service of my country in non- elective position.

“I believe that after serving as governor for eight years, I should allow other people go for political offices meant for the state. There is therefore no truth in the rumour that I want to contest for senate next year.”

Obi said he would remain in All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, no matter the nature of assignment he is carrying out for the nation, adding that he would continue to ensure that the party becomes stronger.

Wike removed me in court as governor – Umahi

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has claimed Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State was responsible for why the Federal High Court sacked him as governor sometime last year, before the Appellate Court restored him back in office.

Umahi made the claim on Monday during the commissioning of remodelled community secondary school, Okoro nu Odo, in Rivers State.

He was in Rivers on the invitation of Governor Nyesom Wike for the project commissioning in the State.

null

Recall that the Federal High Court in Abuja, in March, 2022 sacked Umahi, his deputy, Kelechi Igwe, along with 15 lawmakers in the state over their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The 15 lawmakers were elected on the PDP platform before they joined him in dumping the party for the APC.

However, while recalling what transpired when he left PDP, Umahi disclosed that he would not fight Wike again, insisting that nobody could win Governor Wike.

null

”First look at the decamping of G-3 governors – Cross River, Zamfara and Ebonyi; that is the stepping stone, of course governor Wike fought us; fought us very, very badly. And when APC people said why are you supporting Wike, I said what did you do when Wike removed me in the first court as governor of Ebonyi State, you want me to come and fight again? I chose my fight, I said I will not fight the man again. But the truth is that if anybody thinks he can win Governor Wike in Rivers State, that is a joke taken too far. And I am very bold to say that,” Umahi said.

Fubara: Nemesis catching up with Wike, fight’ll lead to his fall – Primate Ayodele

The Leader Of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has described the alleged power tussle between the Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara, and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, as nemesis catching up with the minister for his contribution towards the emergence of a Muslim-Muslim presidency.

Primate Ayodele said the fight with Fubara will weaken Wike and ridicule him.

In a statement signed by his media aide, Oluwatosin Osho, Ayodele explained that the tussle will lead to the fall of Wike politically.

The prophet advised the governor to seek God’s face on what to do with his predecessor because he won’t stop till he brings him down and won’t listen to anybody regarding the issue.

‘’When I warned that some governors would fight their predecessors, some people thought I didn’t know what I was saying. They said I am a political prophet but they don’t know that there is nothing like a political prophet.

“A prophet is a prophet regardless of what he talks about, as long as it comes to pass and I don’t even talk about politics alone, I talk about every sector in the country.

‘’I said Fubara and Wike will fight but people thought it won’t be possible but now, it has happened. This fight will ridicule Wike, he will be weakened. He will begin to have sleepless nights and I see this fight leading to the fall of Wike politically. This is purely nemesis fighting the former governor.

‘’Fubara must seek the face of God to know what to do about Wike because nobody will be able to settle this. Until Wike brings Fubara down, he won’t stop. Wike will not listen to anybody, he won’t even listen to God because this fight is meant to pay him back for his contribution in bringing a Muslim-Muslim presidency on board,” he said.

The management disclosed this in a statement signed by Tser Vanger, Principal Assistant Registrar (Information & Public Relations) of the varsity, in Makurdi on Thursday.

The management said that despite an agreement with the students after a series of meetings, they endorsed themselves and resolved to boycott lectures, leading to their suspension.

“And in spite of the wide condemnation of the students by their lecturers, they continued holding clandestine meetings and planning to stage a bigger protest and possibly cause destruction.

“Security reports indicated that the students had made contact with external associates to prosecute the next phase of the protest.

“Consequent upon this and the reports emanating from the security unit, students affairs and academic staff of the College of Health Sciences, the management was left with no option than to suspend the 200- to 600-level students of the college for one month,” the statement indicated.

The management got wind of clandestine moves by the affected students to disrupt their academic activities over sundry grievances.

It said that the vice-chancellor, Tor Iorapuu, had delegated the deputy vice-chancellor (administration), Mike Odey, and other management staff to dialogue with students to address their concerns.

“The dialogue held, and the only grievance of the students was their demand that 200-level medical students be relocated to Block C. And this was appropriately handled.

“The report was to be submitted to the Vice-Chancellor on October 25, the same day the students decided to embark on the demonstration after all assurances were given to them during a meeting the previous day.

“Remaining defiant, the students marched to the government house where they were addressed by the Commissioners for Health and Information and the chief of staff to the governor, who asked them to list their problems and choose some representatives to speak with the governor, but they refused, insisting that all of them must go in.

“It was at this point that the governor’s aides and other officials left the students at the Government House Roundabout where the vice-chancellor, who had also met them, advised them to return to the campus,” the statement added.

This was an eyesore and we decided to destroy it.“What is surprising is that these are drugs and consumables acquired by the hospital to be given to the patients, so why were they abandoned to the point of expiration.“When you get drugs with short expiry dates, you can give them to other general hospitals for use, donate to internally displaced persons (IDPs), make them available free to patients who need them or do medical outreach to treat people.“Why should we have expired drugs worth millions of naira when the entire state is in want of the drugs,” he said.

According to the CMD,  “These are drugs acquired by the hospital to be used by the hospital for the patients. So why did they abandon the drugs to the point of expiration, no one can say.

“When you get drugs with short dates, you can convey some of these drugs to other hospitals for instance, we have Internally Displaced Persons camps you can give them, hospitals and you can even do medical outreach with the drugs before they expired.

“There is no reason you should have drugs worth this amount of money expiring in this hospital when the whole state is in need of drugs.

“To keep our record straight because sometimes people may even go to the store and still use them so we decided to destroy the drugs.

“What is surprising is that you have drugs running to millions and you privatize and leave the drugs. The areas that have been privatized, like Radiology, have been written off.

Dr Hwande said that the destroyed drugs range from antibiotics, anti-hypertensive, anti-malaria, including consumables like iodine, bandages, urine bags, just as he said that the expired drugs could form a big pharmacy in the capital city.

The CMD further said that unclaimed 100 corpses were in the hospital morgue, adding that the hospital had written to the State Commissioner of Police to grant permission to dispose off the corpses.

He said, “On assumption of office,, I went round the stores and I discovered drugs worth over N200 million and consumables in the stores. I also discovered over 100 unclaimed corpses in the morgue.

Elisha Abbo withdraws allegations and offers an apology to Senate President Akpabio.

Fimaa World Ng03 Mins

Senator Elisha Abbo, who serves as the lawmaking representative fir Adamawa North Senatorial District, has issued a public apology to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and has cleared him of ant association with his recent removal from the senate.

During a televised address on Arise TV this Wednesday morning, October 18, 2023, Abbo withdrew his earlier accusations and offered a gesture of reconciliation to his fellow legislator.

“I have to say this with all sense of humility and responsibility, that the press release we rendered yesterday was premature,” Abbo stated.

“Based on the available information at our disposal yesterday, we had made accusations. But as of today, we have discovered a lot more. I had a discussion with Senate President my brother, my colleague, Distinguished Senator Akpabio, and I am convinced that he’s not involved.

Abbo underscored his confidence in Akpabio’s innocence, recalling a conversation in which Akpabio had solemnly sworn on his late mother’s grave, affirming his non-involvement.

“I don’t see a reason why he would lie,” Abbo remarked. “Today, additional intelligence trickled in, and we have abundant information that clears his name.”

The remarkable shift in circumstances came after Abbo’s initial assertion that Akpabio played a role in his Senate expulsion, alleging that his refusal to endorse Akpabio’s candidacy for Senate President led to his ousting.

Abbo’s removal followed the Court of Appeal’s decision in Abuja, which invalidated his election and declared Amos Yohanna, the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, as the victor in the February 25 senatorial election.

In response to Abbo’s initial allegations, Akpabio’s spokesperson had labeled them as uncharitable and underscored Akpabio’s absence of ill intentions toward any of his fellow lawmakers.

The spokesperson clarified that the court’s judgment was the outcome of a rigorous assessment of facts and evidence in accordance with the rule of law.
